Beach access walkway

Es Cavall d’en Borras beach (also known as Cala d’en Borras) is the closest beach to the port of La Savina, approximately 2 km away, and is located west of the salt flats.

This cove, with its limited size and fine white sand, has the advantage of offering a beautiful turquoise sea with sandy and sloping bottoms, ideal for those who want to take a relaxing swim.

The nature

From this stretch of coast, which is part of the Ses Salines Natural Park, you can observe the uninhabited islets of Es Vedrà and Es Vedranell, which reach maximum heights of 382 and 128 meters respectively. These two limestone rock formations are said to have a special energy that is particularly evident at sunset… try it to believe it!

At the back of Es Cavall d’en Borras there is a dune system: a lush pine forest and thick bushes extend to the healthy lagoon of Estany Pudent and the salt flats. This allows tourists to protect themselves from the sun during the hottest hours of the day and provides shade for the refreshment area. This feature is very much appreciated, as shady areas are very rare in Formentera.

The sea is crystal clear and thanks to the sandy bottoms it will be pleasant to abandon yourself to the most authentic spirit of the island. As for the other beaches of Formentera, here too you can decide whether to bring with you everything you need for your day at the beach or, alternatively, have lunch in one of the chiringuitos which, in addition to the famous aperitif ritual, serve fish or meat dishes at not very cheap prices.

Finally, being one of the most beautiful areas of the island of Formentera, there are many boats that decide to moor in this little paradise. But don’t think that the authenticity of the place is denatured: the spectacle of Formentera always remains unaltered.

The aperitifs

The famous Beso Beach bench

In this wild-looking beach there are two very famous beach bars (chiringuitos): Beso Beach (formerly Big Sur) is famous for its hippy chic atmosphere. Be prepared to come back with a lighter wallet, but the fun is guaranteed. Try the nachos with melted cheese, a real delight!
Much photographed is the famous bench overlooking the sea, with the inscription “no hay verano sin beso” (which in English means “there is no summer without a kiss”)… so don’t forget to take a souvenir photo!

At the El Tiburon chiringuito you will breathe a trendy air but with your feet strictly in the sand; while at Sa Sequi, a more informal place than the others mentioned above, you can enjoy excellent cocktails. To reach the latter you have to go towards La Savina, in fact it is located in front of a stretch of sea where in the distance you will also see the port.

But what makes each of these places truly special is the “puesta de sol” moment: at sunset time, many young people participate with keen interest in the most awaited natural spectacle. When the sun gently sets in the sea, the evening arrives on tiptoe… it is at this moment that you will see the most beautiful colors you have ever seen! You will be literally overwhelmed by a whirlwind of emotions that will make you fall in love with this magical island once again. Enjoy your aperitif!

How to get there

Es Cavall d’En Borras is easily reached from the port. Just follow the signs for the famous Ses Illetes beach: at a certain point you can turn left where you will see the Sa Sequi chiringuito or, a little further on, the entrance to the Beso Beach car park. The beach stretches between these two bars.

In the immediate vicinity of both chiringuitos there are spaces where you can park your scooter or car, but be careful because the Beso Beach car park is not free.
The beach can also be reached on foot, by bicycle or by bus from the port. In Formentera you will never have to travel long distances, so choose the means of transport that suits you best and have fun!
