Formentera bus: schedules and routes

Using the bus in Formentera is a great solution for those who do not want to rent a vehicle and waste time looking for a parking space. There are 5 lines on the island, namely four active all year round with the addition of a tourist line operating only during the summer season. Thanks to this capillary coverage that reaches all the major points of interest, using the buses in Formentera is an easy and comfortable way to explore the island.

Line L1 route

This line follows a circular route that goes from the port of La Savina passing through the areas of Sa Roqueta, Es Pujols, Sant Ferran and Sant Francesc. Once the stops are completed, it will then return to the starting point, namely the port of La Savina. It is very used by those who, getting off the ferry, have to reach their accommodation located in the aforementioned localities. Always check carefully that the stop is not very far from your final destination.

Line L2 route

Line L2 starts from the port of La Savina and reaches the town of El Pilar de la Mola (the village that is located at the highest point of the island of Formentera). During the journey, which allows you to admire the surrounding landscape, the bus will stop in the localities of Sant Ferran, Sant Francesc (the capital of the island) and finally Ca Marí, an area at the beginning of the beautiful beach of Migjorn where the Gecko and Formentera Playa Insotel hotels are located.

Continuing on, there will be a stop in the area of Es Caló, famous for its restaurants such as Can Pascual and Can Rafalet (the latter with a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea) and one not far from the magnificent Riu La Mola hotel complex, which overlooks the beach of Migjorn.

This stop is also very useful for anyone who wants to visit the beautiful Caló Des Mort, one of the most suggestive coves of Formentera. The bus ends its journey in the town of El Pilar de la Mola, famous for hosting a folkloric hippy market every Wednesday and Sunday. Active from late afternoon until after dinner, from May to October.

Line L5 route

Among the most beautiful beaches of Formentera, Cala Saona is perhaps the most picturesque. You can reach it thanks to line L5 which, starting from the port of La Savina and passing through Sant Francesc, will take you to its immediate vicinity.

Line L7 route

Bus L7 makes a route that connects various locations on the island. From Es Pujols you can take it to comfortably reach Ses Illetes, but also to reach the village of Sant Ferran; from the latter, if you are staying in the surrounding area, you can use it to go to the sea area of Ca Marí, or even further east to reach the beautiful beaches of Es Caló.

The next stop after this is also the terminus, near the Riu La Mola and Maryland hotels. Line L7 is very popular with tourists because it leads to some of the most beautiful beaches of Formentera.

A great convenience of the bus service in Formentera is that tickets can be bought on board. The driver will be in charge of selling them as soon as you get on the bus. There are two data-cfasync="false" data-cfasync="false" types of tickets: short-range, sold at a cost of €1.80; long-range, at a higher cost of €2.55 (per person). The ticket is free for people under 18 years of age and for residents of Formentera.

Getting around by bus definitely requires a minimum of organization, especially in terms of knowing the location of the stops and the timetables of the various lines. In this way you will avoid unpleasant waits in the sun and you will be autonomous in managing your time.
The only drawback of this option, which is certainly very eco-friendly, is the fact that in the evening the buses stop running. From around 10pm until 7am the next morning you will have to move around by private means or by taxi.

Tourist itinerary: line L3

This route, designed to facilitate the visit to the beautiful beach of Ses Illetes even for those who are in Formentera only for a day, starts from the port of La Savina and leads, in just 15 minutes, to the stop near Playa de Ses Illetes. There are no intermediate stops and the bus does not continue to other locations.

The route provides a direct connection between the port of La Savina and the beach of Ses Illetes. The runs are quite frequent, every 30 minutes starting at 9:45. The cost of the round trip ticket is €8.
