The best nightclubs in Formentera
Formentera, the pearl of the Balearic Islands, famous for its crystal-clear sea and dreamlike beaches, also offers a vibrant nightlife that can satisfy every desire. If, during a relaxing vacation, you wish to spend an alternative evening, the island offers the opportunity to have fun and dance until the early hours of the morning. Unlike the frenetic Ibiza, renowned for its exclusive clubs, Formentera boasts two discos and numerous venues where it is possible to stay out late in a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere.
Es Pujols is the beating heart, the nerve center of Formentera’s nightlife. It is here that almost all of the island’s nighttime entertainment is concentrated. Therefore, renting a house in Es Pujols is ideal for those who want to fully immerse themselves in Formentera’s life, between relaxing on the beach during the day and lively nighttime fun.
Tipic
The big news of 2024 is the return of the famous Tipic nightclub. For those who have been going to Formentera for years, this club needs no introduction: since 1971 it has been synonymous with exclusive, innovative and glamorous evenings. Just think that at the inauguration, in the 70s, the legendary Pink Floyd performed live!
Located at the beginning of the town of Es Pujols, Tipic opens its doors every night from midnight to 6:00 in the morning. The crowd is diverse: young and old gather here to experience the magic of the Formentera night. You can choose whether to book a table in the exclusive private area upstairs, for a more intimate experience, or jump on the dance floor and let loose with everyone else. For those who want a break, there is also an outdoor area with a bar.
To stay up to date on events and the latest news, we recommend following Tipic’s Instagram page or visiting their website.
Magoo (formerly Pineta)
After a period of closure, in 2024 the Magoo nightclub reopened its doors, once again enlivening the nights of Es Pujols. Located in the heart of the town, in Plaza Europa, the nightclub stands where the famous Pineta Club once was, a few steps from the seafront.
Among the members of the company that manages this venue, Federico Chimirri stands out, known not only for his DJ activity, but also for having reached the semi-final of Masterchef Italy 11.
The club’s music programming is designed to cater to diverse tastes. Fans of the infectious rhythm of reggaeton and hip hop can attend the “Plata o Plomo” event, while those who prefer sounds more oriented towards commercial or house music can fully enjoy the “I am a rich bitch” evening.
The Magoo mainly attracts a young audience, predominantly under thirty years old, largely made up of tourists. However, it is not uncommon to also encounter island residents and people who work in the surrounding areas, who choose the Magoo to enjoy a drink and end their day. Regarding attire, a formal dress code is not required, but it is suggested to avoid an excessively casual style.
Rigatoni
If dancing until dawn isn’t to your taste, but at the same time you don’t want the traditional restaurant dinner, an excellent alternative, also located in Es Pujols, is Rigatoni. Its reputation precedes it and you’ve certainly already heard of it. It is in this place that the famous “dinner-shows” are held.
But what exactly do they consist of? By paying a fixed fee, which usually hovers around 50 euros, you will have the opportunity to dine in an environment where fun is the undisputed protagonist.
During these set-menu dinners, which offer a selection of meat and fish dishes, you’ll have the chance to let loose and dance on the tables. It will also be an opportunity to make new friends with other guests eager to experience an extraordinary evening. Whether the soundtrack is provided by a DJ or live music, the staff will be ready to involve you in an unforgettable experience.
Update: as of the 2023 season, Rigatoni has changed its location. It is no longer located on the Es Pujols waterfront, but has moved about a hundred meters to the location previously occupied by Pachanka, specifically at Carrer de Roca Plana 49.
Ses Roques Music Bar
If you’re looking for an authentic experience in tune with the atmosphere of Formentera, Ses Roques is the ideal choice. Located at kilometer 6.6 of the main road, near Sant Ferran, this disco bar with its informal and relaxed atmosphere offers evenings of music and dancing in a typically hippie setting.
Ses Roques stands out for its varied offering of events and entertainment: from engaging jam sessions, which offer musicians of all kinds the opportunity to express themselves, to lively DJ sets that range across different musical genres to get the audience going, up to frequent and original artistic performances, which further enrich the experience.
To fully immerse yourself in the spirit of the “isla bonita” (beautiful island in Spanish), as Formentera is affectionately called, a stop at Ses Roques Music Bar is a must. A practical tip: to easily find it on Google Maps, search for “Bar musical Ses Roquetes”, the name it is registered under.
Blue Bar
On the stunning Migjorn beach, one of the most beautiful in Formentera, stands an iconic venue, a true landmark that has marked an era: the Blue Bar. This place, which witnessed the birth and growth of hippie culture in the effervescent 1970s, still retains a magical and vibrant atmosphere today. As its name suggests, the Blue Bar is characterized by an unmistakable aesthetic, with its walls and furnishings painted entirely in blue, creating a suggestive and relaxing atmosphere during the day and a festive setting at night.
Many Formentera visitors include Blue Bar on their must-see list to enjoy an unforgettable drink with a sea view. However, not everyone knows its more festive and nocturnal soul, which manifests with overwhelming energy starting at midnight. At that moment, Blue Bar transforms into a true temple of fun, attracting a diverse crowd of island residents, Spanish and international tourists, creating a truly unique mix of cultures and energies.
The Blue Bar is a place with a casual and carefree atmosphere where you can let go and fully enjoy the magic of the island. Forget formal attire and strict etiquette: here, the watchword is relaxation. The music selection is varied and designed to please all tastes, ranging from Latin rhythms like reggaeton to timeless classics of 90s disco music. An additional advantage is that admission is free, allowing everyone to participate in this party under the stars.
Update: as of August 2022, the Blue Bar’s hours have changed. During the week, closing time has been moved to 12:00 AM (midnight), while on weekends (Friday and Saturday) the bar remains open until 2:00 AM.
Pachanka (closed)
As already mentioned, the two main nightclubs in Formentera are those indicated above, but for those who wish to spend an evening full of fun and stay out until the early hours, the island also offers other options. For example, also in the lively village of Es Pujols, you can find the Pachanka, a disco-pub that opens its doors at 11:00 PM and stays open until 6:00 AM. However, it is customary for the place to start getting lively and crowded around 3:00 AM.
The Pachanka club offers an interesting alternative to the more famous nightclubs, especially due to its free entry, which makes it accessible to a wider audience. The atmosphere is international, thanks to the diverse clientele that frequents it: Italians, Spaniards, and South Americans, creating a true cultural melting pot.
Besides the engaging music and the wide selection of cocktails, Pachanka offers an additional element of entertainment: the opportunity to play foosball (or table football). This adds a touch of fun and friendly competition to the evening, perfect for those looking for a more interactive and dynamic experience.
The Beach (closed)
The Beach is a club located in the vibrant heart of Es Pujols, right next to the renowned Pineta. Admission is free, but its true peculiarity is the unique opportunity to have a drink and dance under a wonderful starry sky. This is a priceless experience, something truly invaluable!
The Beach is an excellent option before going to the nightclub. You can go there after dinner, while waiting for the opening and entertainment of clubs like Tipic or Pineta. Alternatively, you can spend the whole evening there. It is open from the early evening and continues until late at night, approximately until 4 in the morning.
Where to have fun in Formentera?
In conclusion, it can be said that most of Formentera’s clubs and nightlife are mainly concentrated in the town of Es Pujols. Exceptions include Ses Roques Music Bar and Blue Bar, which are located in other areas of the island. Precisely because of this wide range of nightlife options, the town of Es Pujols is the favorite destination for young people who are preparing to choose accommodation for their holidays.
