entrance fee

How much is the entrance fee to Ses Illetes?

The enchanting beaches of Formentera are undoubtedly the main attraction of this wonderful island. Scattered in various points of the coast, they are all easily reachable by means of transport. The scooter, for example, is convenient to park and gives the feeling of being still a teenager; the car, on the other hand, is ideal for families who opt for comfort.

The electric bicycle is also a valid alternative for moving between the various beaches: handy and fast, it allows you to savor the true essence of Formentera at every kilometer. Finally, you can choose taxis, which are more numerous during the high season, or buses, particularly the L3 tourist line and the L7 line.

Entrance fee to Ses Illetes and Llevant

Particular attention should be paid to the wonderful beaches of Ses Illetes and Llevant, preserved by the Consell Insular and included within the Ses Salines Natural Park. Following the line of international political trends in terms of sustainable development and biodiversity protection, an entrance toll is foreseen for cars and motorcycles.

The period of time in which access is subject to a charge is from May 1st to September 30th and the cost varies depending on the period. Let’s see in detail the dates and prices for each means of transport.

  • From May 1st to June 15th: cars €4; motorcycles €2.
  • From June 16th to July 15th: cars €5; motorcycles €3.
  • From July 16th to August 31st: cars €6; motorcycles €4.
  • From September 1st to 15th: cars €5; motorcycles €3.
  • From September 16th to 30th: cars €4; motorcycles €2.

Since 2016, quads have been banned from entering the Ses Salines Natural Park. For this reason, it will be practically impossible to find a motorcycle rental that rents them.

Entrance to Ses Illetes and Llevant is free for island residents.

Another important note is the parking capacity: it will not be enough to pay to access it as the spaces are limited. To be precise, 384 cars and 1132 motorcycles can enter.

Means of transport exempt from payment

If you do not want to rent a vehicle in Formentera, you can move around by taxi or bus. Taxis are present in some dedicated areas, such as in front of the Sa Volta hotel in Es Pujols or near the Cafeteria Sant Francesc bar in the town of the same name. Usually there are always a good number of taxis available but, during the high season, despite the increase in the number, you may encounter long waits.

Choosing to move by bus, the L3 tourist line is an excellent option for those who are near the port of La Savina. If instead you are in a hotel or apartment in the Migjorn or Es Pujols area, you can take the L7 bus. The ticket is purchased on board and the bus stops a short distance from the beaches of Ses Illetes and Llevant. You will have to walk 5-10 minutes but in this way you will save on the entrance toll.

Bicycles, both electric and traditional, are also exempt from the toll: you can leave them in the special racks located in the parking lots. Finally, access is also free for people with reduced mobility and electric vehicles; hybrid vehicles instead pay 50% of the cost of the corresponding category.

A Day at Ses Illetes and Llevant

The beaches of Ses Illetes and Llevant are located in the northern part of Formentera, not far from the port of La Savina and just 5 kilometers from Es Pujols. Probably these two wonderful beaches will be at the top of your list of things to see in Formentera. Often included in the ranking of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, they boast a soft white sand beach and a sea so transparent that it will seem like you are diving into a swimming pool.

To make the most of a day at the sea here, we suggest you not arrive too late in the morning: you could find the parking lot already full and wait a long time under the scorching sun. An alternative is to visit them in the middle of the afternoon, after the early risers, tired of the sun, have left their places.

In addition to the time to go, it is important to know that here you will find only 3 restaurants with high prices: Es Molí de Sal, Juan y Andrea, Es Ministre. These figures are justified by the incredible location in which they are located. Alternatively, you can consider a packed lunch, an option chosen by many people who spend the whole day on the beaches.

Finally, another tip is related to the possibility of renting a beach umbrella and loungers: there are not many available and even here it will be in your best interest to arrive early if you don’t want to miss them. Otherwise, you can freely position yourself wherever you want.

A curiosity that perhaps not everyone remembers: in front of the Tanga restaurant, on Llevant beach, in the distant 2016 the former Inter footballer Christian Vieri had fun challenging passersby to footvolley (beach volley but with the feet). Even today there is a beach volleyball court in case you want to play a game with friends on this beautiful beach.
