Platja de Llevant or Levant beach

Platja de Llevant, also known as Levant Beach, is about 3 kilometers from the tourist resort of Es Pujols and is located on the eastern side of the Es Trucadors peninsula, the sandspit that houses Ses Illetes beach on the opposite side.

Considered two of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Formentera, they are called “the twins” because of their location. Levante, however, less crowded than its sister Playa de Ses Illetes, enjoys an atmosphere and a calm that will regenerate your mind and body.

Levant Beach

Platja de Llevant is an extensive beach, stretching for about 1500 meters, offering visitors various possibilities: you can choose to rent sunbeds and umbrellas for greater comfort or position yourself freely away from facilities and bars.
The sand here is white and fine, the seabed, free of rocks, slopes gently towards the sea.

One of the main characteristics of this place of exceptional beauty is the rocky headlands and the numerous dunes that surround the coastline. You will notice this as you reach the beach from one of the many wooden walkways that accompany you towards the sea.

In the vicinity there are kiosks and refreshment points, but despite this, the tourist presence is certainly lower than on the nearby Ses Illetes beach. Those who arrive at Levant immediately perceive its unspoiled nature and this is also why it is one of the favorite beaches for naturists.

The Tanga restaurant

The most famous place on the beach is undoubtedly Tanga, a restaurant with an attached beach club that provides umbrellas and sunbeds. Located at one of the entrances to the beach, this place boasts an unbeatable position: having lunch here will be a fantastic experience. Specializing in seafood cuisine, you can taste fresh squid and prawns “a la plancha”, or grilled. Such is the fame of this place that many people think the name of the beach is Tanga Beach!

A little curiosity: in 2016 Bobo Vieri established on this beach a footvolley tournament (a game where the rules are taken from beach volleyball but the ball can be hit with any part of the body except with hands and arms) and numerous spectators and as many challengers thus gave life to an event that made Levant one of the most popular beaches in Formentera.
Online you can find videos and gossip of that roaring summer that saw the bomber as the undisputed protagonist.

Another place that we always recommend nearby is the Kiosko Manolito. Ideal for a refreshing beer, it also offers a varied menu in case you decide to have lunch with your feet in the sand.

The Sea

As in other parts of the island, the sea here is also transparent. The wonderful shades of blue that can be seen from the moment you enter the walkway will only amaze you as you get closer to the sea. Thanks to the very clear sand and water, the light in this place is dazzling!

With its clear and calm waters, the sea of Platja de Llevant is suitable both for those who want to swim and for those who, equipped with one of the many bizarre inflatable mattresses, decide to relax and be lulled by its waves.

How to Get to Platja de Llevant

If you have rented a car or scooter, be prepared to pay a small toll to access the beaches of Ses Illetes and Levant: both are part of the Ses Salines Natural Park, a protected area. If you do not want to pay the entrance fee, you can consider reaching them by bus, using the tourist line that makes stops near the most beautiful beaches on the island, or by bicycle.

Or again, if you feel like stretching your legs, don’t be afraid of the heat and have an apartment in Es Pujols, you can consider a nice walk: in about 40 minutes you will reach the beach. Another option for the laziest is to approach by scooter up to a certain point and, starting from Platja de Sa Roqueta, via comfortable wooden walkways, arrive at Levant for free.

Useful information for those who decide to rent a quad in Formentera: access is prohibited here! To protect the natural heritage, the strict laws established by the Consell Insular have prohibited these vehicles from entering the natural park. The decision to protect these places also provides for an entrance control: not everyone will be allowed to access the beaches of Illetes or Levant, for this reason our advice is to go there very early in the morning. In this way you will avoid unpleasant and long queues under the scorching sun of the “isla bonita”.
